Popcorn Mania!!!

Popcorn Mania 😎

The Year 4's had a very busy but fun time creating all our popcorn on Monday!

We have spent the term looking at how food fuels our body and we surveyed the Year 2 classes to find out about their preferred snacks. Once we knew how much we loved popcorn we set our selves the challenge of finding and modifying popcorn recipes to make them a healthy and delicious lunchbox friendly snack.

Each group had to find a recipe and look at ways to improve the healthiness of it while still keeping it delicious. We then enlisted the help of some wonderful parents who came in and worked with groups to pop, melt, stir and bake their way to a pop-tas-tic result.

The year 2 students then got to come to taste and vote on their preferred recipe, giving our teams great feedback along the way.

Thank you to all the students (and parents!) for your hard work during our inquiry learning this term and a big thank you to the year 2 students and teachers for your time in helping us develop our ideas.

Fuel for our Bodies

The Year 4's are currently learning about how food impacts on our bodies. We have been thinking about flavour versus nutrition and how to find a good balance. One of the things we did to learn about this was to research different fruits and vegetables to find out what the health benefits different ingredients provide. Once we had our information we put some of these ingredients through a juicer...and for the most part, we loved the juice it made! Our ingredients were apples, oranges, celery, beetroot and carrot :)

Peter Snell Youth Village Camp 2016!!!

Wow! Our Year 4 camp this year at Peter Snell Youth Village was AMAZING!

Despite the rain a great time was had by all and we returned safely to school on Friday 19th May happy and exhausted.

It was so great to see all the Year 4 children working together and learning outside the classroom.

Everybody had different highlights but I think archery and the waterslide are in the top place - we will remember that for next year :)

Well done to all the wonderful students who did the adults proud by demonstrating the 'Pinehill Way' and a HUGE thank you to all the parents and the team at Peter Snell Youth Village who gave us their time and patience to make it such a wonderful learning and bonding experience for our akonga!

 Balloon Games were a hit!

Ice cold water at the bottom of the slide to keep the kids awake ;)

Our beautiful camp view - how lucky were we?!

Presenting our Pepeha

Room 9 have been loving learning how to create and present a pepeha. This has seen us exploring our own lives and the people and places that are important to each of us. It has also been developing our knowledge and respect for Te reo maori so having the opportunity to present these at our sharing assembly last week was fantastic. We are so proud of ourselves!!!

Building Active Learners

Our big learning focus in Room 9 this year is learning how to be an active learner! We have been listening to Mojo's messages to help us understand what this means and trying to apply these messages to our own learning. It would be wonderful if you could talk with your child about what they are learning each day at school and why it's important. Good learners know what they are learning and why!

The more you work it the bigger it gets!

Mistakes show us what we need to learn!

It's ok to not know something yet!
